Exposition on Prelude: Hell hath no fury...
...like a game player who doesn't get his or her own way. XP I mean, look--Rikku and Rinoa don't get to have their favorite people, while Cloud is stuck with his worst enemy. In my mind, Cid made a wise choice (hey, I'm just smarting over a similar situation right now, don't mind me).
Personally, I feel today's is one of the best I've done. The eye in the first panel is mesmerizing, the girls are suitably dismayed in the second, the Squall and Tidus pigs are so cute in the third, Auron getting bawled out in the fourth, Auron looking downright realistic almost in the fifth, and Cloud and Cid in the sixth--wow.
I had a hard time choosing my favorite panel but finally gave it to the last one. The way Cloud is freaking out and Cid is patiently telling him to shut up--mmm, nice. You have to admit, though, the pigs are cute.
Just in case you can't tell which demon dragon is which, Rikku is the light-colored spiked one with the two mouths on the left, and Rinoa is the dark spiked one on the right (though you really can't see her spikes).
Auron getting bawled out...heh heh...ahem. Well, Prelude is almost over. Chapter One will be starting soon.
And, oh yes, Happy Free Candy Day. I don't really do holiday themed comic pages, so...well, there's your holiday themed something or other. Heh.

Exposition on Prelude: The Final Player
Well, well, well, so we finally see who the last player is--Sephiroth. *Sephiroth theme plays* Surprised? I was, somewhat, when I found out--Sephiroth's author was never on the original player list, so he rather came out of nowhere. Secret character, everyone!
And what happens to Tidus and Squall? We'll find out tomorrow, but if you've been paying attention to Auron...
My little teen fangirl self is squealing with delight--Sephiroth was one of my first favorite RPG villians, and I used to draw him all the time. (Not that you can tell at the moment, but it'll kick in, I'm sure. ^^) That plus his raven wing--I'm happy. By the way, does anyone know why Cloud has a left wing and Sephiroth has a right?
I don't have a favorite panel today, but here's this:
Today's Crowd: (all copyrights to all authors) one of the FFS crew, a Qu, a Red Mage, a Moogle, a Pupu, and Nanaki (or his twin)
Players' Color Borders:
Red--Freya
Crimson--Auron
Orange--Zell
Orange Yellow--Zidane
Dirty Blonde--Tidus
Green--Rikku
Teal--Cecil
Blue--Rinoa
Dark Blue--Cloud
Violet--Sephiroth
Black--Squall
Bold Black--Zack
Random--Cid
Black--NPCs
And FFS is running 1oo unique visitors every day now. Just thought I'd say that, y'know, boost my swelling ego. *grin*

Exposition on Prelude: Run, Boy, Run!
OK, so here is what (technically) is Monday's. And tomorrow's will be today's. Yesterday's was supposed to be Monday's, and today's today, but--whoa, hang on, I think I just confused myself. @_@
Anyways, I'm still trying to figure out how to leave enough room for the speech boxes so they don't cut into the art itself. This time around, I tried wide panels, and I liked the effect.
The first line I don't care for too much (Zidane is looking scarily enough like Michael Jackson, and that was completely unintentional). Maybe Zell slipping past Cloud is amusing, but...eh.
At first, I didn't like the second line, either, but the effect on Cloud's cape--wow. I impressed myself. I used a different pencil this time around, since I was working in a larger than normal scale.
The last line's amusing--especially Cid looking...put out? Annoyed? And to put the two "elderly" curmudgeons together in one panel--heh. (By the way, 3o-something isn't ancient, so pfft! (I'm only--well, a lot less than 3o, but still...))
Cid is also letting us know that we have a twist coming up tomorrow. I'm excited, and slightly relieved--it's about time.

Exposition on Prelude: A Squall and a Tide
And if you want to complain about the title, then tough. It was a (bad) ripoff of the "Neither Squall nor Cloud" line from the end of FFiX, but I doubt I quoted that right and at the moment, I'm too tired to look it up. So deal. ;)
Now, technically, this is Sat's comic. Tomorrow's will be today's. You'll get another one on Weds., you lucky people, and we'll go back to regular schedule at that point. Halloween shouldn't mess me up at all, I wouldn't think.
Anyways, Tidus and Squall are still fighting over the last position in Survivor and Auron decides it's time to step in (though he's showing favoritism toward Tidus, since they were both in the same game together). I don't have many decent pics of Squall, so you won't be seeing too much of him just yet. I like Squall's expression in the third line, first panel. Same angst you always see on his face, but it's just funny, for some reason.
Auron wins the Best Panel award today, though--the thought of Auron wanting to abandon both of those (at the moment) immature kids is just classic.
Still working out the technical details of drawing a comic, but for 21 pages and 1,ooo+ visitors for one month, I say we're doing all right. The comment I've been hearing the most is how much people like the expressions. I agree--that is my favorite part as well.
If anyone knows the code for a drop down navigation menu, please send me an email to ffscomic(at)yahoo(dot)com.

One More Quick Note
The image being down was my fault, not the server's. Sorry. That's what really makes me want to scream about HTML--one wrong letter and the whole thing is shot.
Also, we're about to break 1,ooo visitors in less than a month--whoa! :-D

Oh wow, lookit all the visitors! AKA--what's going on at FFS?!
Hello to all the new people who just found out about FFS:TOC today. Aren't I the clever little stinker? Yes, FFS:TOC is where you get to read even more than at the comic/written story, but here, you get to hear me rant nicely (or are those last two words a paradox?)
You can catch up on the last 2o entries later ;) but for now, let me explain why the comic for today isn't up yet. It's a really good excuse, I swear it! I'm having so much fun drawing Tidus and Squall beating up on each other that--ok, that excuse rather sucks, huh? OK, in all honesty, I fell behind this week (JakII didn't help either, heh--I dread to think what will happen come FFX-2 time), but I plan to catch up. Today's comic will either be up today, tomorrow, or at the worst latest, Monday, with Monday's in Tuesday's slot, then back on regular schedule.
In the meantime, here's the first of many FFS fanarts. Not the best, mind you, just the first. According to the date, this was drawn by me at work last Friday. Yeah, I was that bored, heh. Going from the top and meandering down to the bottom:
~Fighter Auron: and I cringe. He doesn't look anywhere as near as good as when I first drew the image. Besides, that has to do with my Dress Sphere project, not FFS, so why is it in FFS fanart? Because the rest is.
~Zell and Rikku:
Zell: I don't remember agreeing to this...
Rikku: Oooo you look so cyuuute!
Zell: I just wanted the Godhand glove!
Rikku: But you have to accessorize!
Why did I draw Zell in Rikku's clothing? Got me. Why am I making a larger, in color version right now? Because I think it's funny. Go me. ^_^
~Fenrir: will be making an appearance later on. I've always been fascinated by foxes/wolves and I'm also trying to learn to draw non-cute stuff.
~Ixion Ganger and Ganger: probably mean nothing to you yet. They will show up very late in the comic. The Ixion Ganger has that perfect level of gleeful sadisticness, but Ganger himself still has a lot of prep work ahead of him.
~Carbunkle plushie: from "Elementis", one of my first comics that flopped within the first three days. Ugh. Oh well, maybe I'll try that one again someday--original characters and storylines are nice, too. The real Elementis Carbunkle is not that chunky, but that /is/ a plushie, so there. Heh.
All right, let's wrap this longer-than-usual entry up and let me hurry and get FFS back on track!

Exposition on Prelude: A fighting chance
TVPG-V. Heh.
Well, today's was fun to draw--even if I couldn't show you the fight just yet (yet--that means it is coming). Instead, you get to watch everyone's reaction to the fight, mostly Zell's. I do believe my favorite part is Rikku and Rinoa trying to outyell each other, then turning into those...demon things...making poor Zell curl up and cry.
As I said at the very beginning, this is not a manga, nor does it strive to be. I don't know if demon things are anime-ish, but I enjoyed drawing them. That's definitely my favorite panel.
As for Zell, you'd think with all the great expressions that he is getting that he was my character in the written version. Heh, surprisingly, he wasn't. And even more surprising is that Zell was not his author's first choice for the RPG's character. *grins at BB* No, originally, Zell's author wanted to be Tidus' author (did I lose you yet?), which is probably why Zell is cheering for Tidus instead of Squall, a guy from the same game as him. There's some irony in all of this, which I will point out once Prelude finishes up, which shouldn't take too much longer.
And I know of at least one person who is probably cheering herself hoarse at the thought of Squall punching the stuffing out of Tidus. I can hear her screams of joy all the way over here. ;)

Exposition on Prelude: I hate that joke
(At the time of this writing, the site was done. I'll talk with my server, but hopefully, that's just a temporary thing.)
OK, so Zidane is pulling out Gilders/Gils/Gold/whatever you want to call your FF money and quickly turns to his other love--women. Typical. Heh. Rikku's not having any of it, though, as evidenced by the appearance of Rikku's Curse Cloud. (Note the cutsie boo tinge to it.)
Zidane isn't phased for a moment and seems to love changing trains of thought quickly (or, at least his author did), because the very next panel shows him comparing Cloud to Zack (you can't see Zidane's pointing finger because it's hidden by a text box--sorry), and then he's in the next panel, telling jokes to Zell (who isn't taking to a 45 minute long joke too well).
For the record, yes, I can't stand those "that's no (insert word here), that's my (wife)!" jokes; see, the pun is, you're always walking in on the end of them. Whatever (nothing personal, Zidargh ^_^).
We're about to break 1,ooo visitors to the site, so keep coming, everyone! And it's already getting a lot easier to draw each character and shade them--I guess experience really does help. Funny, that.

Exposition on Prelude: Last Two Left
Sorry about the delay in FFS:TOC's update. My computer decided to do a recheck on the defragging I performed on the hard drive over the weekend. And my, doesn't that just sound wrong. XD
Anyways, I also spent all weekend attempting a CGI'ed color of today's comic. Let's just say that color and I are not getting along as fabulously as I hoped. I have one other option (markers), but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you. I'm coming to love the whole b/w bit, anyway. Lots of nifty things you can do with grayscale, saving color only for the most important moments.
Today we spy Tidus and Squall, both racing to get to the Highwind. Whoever gets there first will get to stay in the game, and the other be left behind, because we were only supposed to have 1o players, and 11 people signed up. If you already know who wins the race, joy for you. Just don't spoil it for everyone else.
My favorite panel in today's just has to be Auron glaring at Zell. I'll have to turn that into an avatar, a fan art, or something and wave it at Zell's Author, it's so funny.
Oh yes, depending on the server, I might start a FanArt section to the comic. FanArt for a fan comic, you say? Well, you'll see what I mean later this week.

Exposition on Prelude: Say what now?
Same great expressions, one big mistake.
Yeah, so there really isn't all that much to say about today's comic--just that we're waiting on the final character to show up (which will be soon, I promise).
However, I promise that I will never ever use colored pencils ever again. I might use color again in the near future (if I have the patience), but never colored pencils. I'm rather miffed at today's page, so I shall leave it at that.

Exposition on Prelude: Only One More
And here is today's lovely little Cecil head shot. You know, a lot of the Cecil stuff is, well, I wouldn't say made up, but I have to guess at a lot of it. Pixelated sprites just don't cut it, heh.
Once again, Zell takes the Best Expressions trophy, especially the last line. I know those aren't necessarily manga expressions, and that's good--I want to make my own expressions. The curse cloud is back again, too.
Tomorrow, one of my lesser biggest mistakes in the history of making this comic. Till then.

Exposition on Prelude: Cecil
Today's page is a rare, 4 line, split-story page. I had had a different idea originally, but considering I had used the exact same style just the other day on the "Prelude: Freya" page...
I rather like how Cecil looks in the first few panels. He's got a much better face shot coming up on Friday, but for now, since it was my first time and there just aren't many pictures of Cecil for reference, I think he looks good.
Today's Crowd: (all copyrights to all authors) two of the FFS Crew, a Pupu (the alien)
Today's Colors: Teal/Sea Green--Cecil
Today's Favorite Panel: Has to be the last one. The action in there prompts the "Welcome to the Mad House" thought.
As far as favorite expression, Auron (believe it or not) snatches the prize this time. It's just the way his face shifts from line to line with total quietness, silent shock, and shocked staring. Classic.
And, ah, the beauty of copy and paste. Heh.
One other note--I just want to see how many of you read this part of the comic. Drop me an email at ffscomic(at)yahoo(dot)com just to say "Yes", "You rock", "keep up the good work", or "Here, take all my money. I don't deserve it."

Exposition on Prelude: Freya
Well, the 8th of the ten Survivors has shown up, which means that the Prelude chapter is almost done. Aren't you excited?
In the first panel, I tried out a few more effects, though I'm iffy on how shadowy Freya came out. The large panel Freya is effective for its purpose, as is her large foot by itself in the final panel. Freya is another quiet character that doesn't show too much emotion, but at least she'll react sooner than, say, Auron or other certain characters.
Today's Colors: Red--Freya
Also, in the original written version (before it was editted), the line Auron says about an intelligent rodent was actually "I've just never seen an intelligent dragon before." He was commenting on how a fiend could actually be an ally. But, since Freya is actually a rat, the line fell through.
Weds.' comic might be slightly delayed--my mouse is on the fritz, making it difficult to prep the images. Plus, I'm going to be at the Texas State Fair all day tomorrow.
One last thing--the written RPG form of FF:S2 began yesterday. Give it a read.

Exposition on Prelude: Female Quotient
So I'm not so good at titles. Ah well.
Today's page is what I like to affectionally call the Special Effects page. There's two panels that benefitted strongly from the Copy and Paste command; a cookie if you can find them. There's also the gradient effect for the last panel, the airship floor.
In case you're wondering who's who, I'll start with Rikku (marked by the green bubble) and go in a clockwise direction: Rikku (green bubble), Auron (sword), Rinoa, Zell, Zidane (tail), Zack (sword, black bubble), and Cloud (sword, small text).
I'm running late on Weds.' page, so that's all I have for today.

Exposition on Prelude: Weakness?
This has got to be one of my favorite pages by far. Oh sure, some of the text balloons are off, but the rest of it--wow!
First off is the (in my humble opinion) awesome panel of Auron's face; I've always had trouble drawing that and this panel is the best version. Next panel has one of the better renditions of the Masamune. Rikku's playing the disapproving mother in the third panel, and we have a blah close up of Auron in the fourth.
Then it's the Holy Weinerschnitzel Choir.
Granted, the color's a little funky for the effect, but the little angel hot dogs just left my editor-type of person in stitches. Add Zell to this with wide eyes in the first panel, and cartoonish cloud dash in the second, and you can tell why several of us got a giggling stomach ache from looking at that.
We end all this up with a rather regular final panel, but given today's overall performance, the page deserves it.

Exposition on Prelude: Spunkiness
Well, this is a so-so page. Auron came out looking the best of the bunch. You can almost see the spiral pupils of Rikku's eyes, but not quite. Surprisingly, I feel that Auron walks away with the best expressions today.
Today's favorite panel: The very last one. Rikku looks all Rikku-y, Zell looks really apologetic (with his normally-gravity-defying hair going the other way), and Auron looks like the dad who's trying to call up some secret reserve of patience.
And before I get the FFX fans going schitzo on my butt, the written portion of the comic explains about Auron's arm without spoiling the game. Sorry to anyone who hasn't played FFX yet. If you really want to know or to discuss the point, I'm at ffscomic(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Exposition on Prelude: Rikku
Today's art was so-so. The effect in the second line could have been better, but...mweh. I was hoping to do a "Rikku Vision" sort of outline, but ah well.
One of my FFS Crew told me that Rikku really looked like Rikku on this page, in that Rikku was conveying her nature perfectly. I agree.
Today's Favorite Panel: Third line, first panel. I gotta hand it to Zell, he's fun to draw. His little "Ooooo" face is hilarious. And Rikku just looks so Rikku-y in that one.
Today's Colors: Green--Rikku
A final note: a majority of the FFS Crew is anti-AuRikku, especially the Auron author (in fact, Rikku's author was the only one for it). So that should calm all Auron and Rikku fanpeoples down. There's just a tiny smattering of Rikku being all giggly around Auron for a bit longer, but nothing comes of it. Don't worry.
Dang, I shoulda made you worry. Heh.

Exposition on Prelude: Zack
OK, first off, yes I know that there are several ways to spell Zack's name. The author for this character chose Zack. Unfortunately, when I was making the first page, I spelt Zack's name Zak (which I personally prefer). There is also Zax or Zacks, or something like that. But Zack is what we will stick to from now on.
I don't terribly like how the characters looked in this one. The only facial expression I really took to was Zack's innocent looking face in the second row, first panel. Zack's real personality is a mystery, so I applaud my fellow FFS Crew member for taking him on.
I also believe that Zack's line: "Nice clothes. Y'know...you look pretty good in 'em."
was actually supposed to be in reference to Cloud's SOLDIER uniform, but it also works for his KH outfit as well. (Apologies, AJeh!)
Today's favorite panel: It's a toss-up between the first panel and the third panel of the second line. Both cover Zack pretty well.
Today's Colors: Bold Black--Zack
Today's Crowd: (copyrights to all respective authors) Nanaki, a Cactuar, a Chocobo, Lulu (at least you can see her this time!), and some of those "demi-human" characters from FFXi--no, I don't know what they are called.
There's also a few random crowd characters I drew in today that I am thinking about sketching more in detail later on, namely the Chocobo Lady and the Squire. Chocobo Lady has all the feathers in her hair, and Squire is looking at Zack in the second line. Ah well, I'm sure you'll see them again soon enough.
One other note of interest
Sometime today we hit over 1oo visitors. At the moment of me checking, I see that we have had 146 unique visitors, and a whopping 342 page views (I may be figuring some of the visiting part wrong, but I'll take my victories where I can, ^_^). *claps for all of you* Thank you for spreading the word and keep spreading the word. It inspires me to keep the comic going!

Exposition on Prelude: Giant Swords
Whoa, advent of gradient background shading! Don't you just love it?
So, more development of characters today. Auron grins a little too much, Rinoa acts childish, and Zell falls down. (Booze is bad, kiddies!)
Zell walks away with the Best Face award yet again. And Rinoa gets her curse cloud, complete with cute versions of all the curse symbols.
I haven't got too much to say about today's; I like it and I don't. Nothing terribly fantastical about today's.
And yes, that is an Oddish (copyright Pokémon and GameFreak) in the last panel.

New Link
For those of you who haven't been exposed to VGR.com, I don't know whether to be shocked or relieved.
Or burned in Hell forever for making it available to you. ^_^;
Anyways, be aware of the rating! Don't blame me if you go over there and whine to me about seeing the f-word or w-word 15 times upon entering the site. Don't blame me if you get all honked off about the sexual orientation jokes about Squall, the Winnie the Pooh comparison of Seymour Guado, or the general evilness that tears at your heart as it makes fun of your old school games.
Because I warned you.
Besides, it's all in good (shameful) fun. Laugh.

New Index Page
Being that FFS is still a new comic, the index page is undergoing constant revamps. Right now, the index page itself reflects my newest version, while all the other pages still remain in the original form. I'm working toward having an index page that really stands out (the archival ones don't need to do that as much).
And yes, "FFS: Companion"'s link is still lost in there somewhere. Working on it.
